Workshop Progress Report - Bottom Boxing
Before I install the remainder of the posts around the perimeter of the building, I've devoted a few days to the construction of a ladder-like arrangement known as "bottom boxing" around the floor edges.
Not only does the bottom boxing form a platform for the straw bales, keeping them safely out of harm's way in the event of burst water pipes or major spills, but it has a crucial role to play in allowing the bales to be compressed once they're in place, contributing significantly to the lateral stability of the building. The orange polyester strapping you can see in the photo gives some clues as to how this is achieved. All will be revealed in a future post!
Cheers
